Community Conversation on Race and Equity
Thanks to the more than 60 students, parents, staff, and community members who showed up at Wednesday night's Community Conversation on Race and Equity. Your support of our students' voices and efforts to shape our present is inspiring. As student Sarah said "There is never not a right time to fight for equality." Later, Dannyle pointed out, "If we self-reflect, it will help us go further." Come see what we accomplish together! Join us at our next conversation February 21st at 6:30. More information is at our FB event page.
Middle School Skiing Adventure
Middle school students are going skiing this week as part of their science studies related to force and motion. A ski lesson is included. Students in CoOL will go on Monday, ZenCOH on Tuesday, United Leaders on Wednesday, and Luminous Achievers on Thursday. Please have your child dress for the weather, including a coat, hat, gloves, and warm socks, and bring a packed lunch.
High School Spring Intersession
HS Students are preparing for spring intersession, which starts March 12th. Students who did not place their deposit by January 10th have been placed in an intersession with available spaces. Parents, if your child was placed in an intersession, please assist us in conversations with your child by reminding them that meeting deadlines is an important skill, and not doing so has important ramifications. Additionally, if your student is disappointed in their intersession choice, remind them that a new experience and learning are their own rewards, and they are likely to have a powerful learning experience in an unexpected place. This helps prevent challenging conversations where students ask to change and we enforce the school's policy, which children sometimes perceive as a conflict. Our adult perspectives are helpful in our example and in our reminders.
All parents, mark your calendars: student-led conferences are coming up February 7th and 8th. Teams will be reaching out to targeted students, emphasizing those students who are at-risk of not meeting goals for this year.
As always, there are lots of ways to get involved at Gamble Montessori, where we make a commitment to learning every day, and we will see you there.
